NATURAL STUCTURES
Based on the architecture of a scorpion tail, this art and leisure concept.
Project Year:
2020 April
Subject:
Artists explore the world in search of inspiration, but accommodations are hardly ever designed to inspire them and give artists with the appropriate workspace.
Objective:
To design an artist residency and workspace for the painters and film makers to be motivated, work hard and stay inspired.
Features:
Cantilever, tapering and forms of segmentation.
scorpions do not have bones instead they have an exoskeleton made of chitin which is similar to the shell of a shrimp. The lower curved on the back limits the scorpions tail to a "coil" therefore the tail round is met halfway.
IDEATION
The sketch illustrates the functioning of a scorpion tail, that can also be defined as a cantilever, tapering and a series of segmentation. These keywords are extracted from the scorpion tail and are used to construct a scorpion tail frame model. It was then experimented with in an origami shape before being translated into a frame.

FINAL MODEL
The final model seen in pictures shows us how the keyword's such as tapering, cantering and segmentation extracted from the scorpion's tail have been implemented in creating an architecture for the artist. The facade is covered by off-white exterior walls with transparent glass panels.
